What is Casting On?
Casting on marks the beginning of your knitting and is the foundation of your stitches. There are many different ways to cast on, and choosing the right cast on method for your project is essential. Not only will your finished knit look more professional but it will ensure your knits fit well, keep their shape, and stand up to wear and tear.
How to Cast On?
Although there are many different ways to cast on, many knitters will only ever use one or two different cast ons for all of their knitting. Although you can knit almost any project using one of the two basic cast ons, it is worth taking a moment to think about your project and what kind of edge you will need.
If you are knitting from a pattern, the designer may specify which cast on method you should use. If the pattern doesn’t say which cast on to use, you may be able to use one of the basic cast on methods.
